A newspaper cutting is viral on social media with claims that drinking alum (Fitkari) water can cure COVID-19. A yoga teacher from Bettiah, Bihar claims that she cure many people with this treatment. The Lallantop found the claim misleading. We talked to Professor Kamal Nayan Dwivedi of the Ayurvedic Department, BHU. He said “there is no treatment for COVID-19 in Ayurveda so far. Alum definately has some anti-viral elements and it is used in making vaccines, there is no study that proves alum water usage in curing COVID. There are various methods in Ayurveda by which you can boost immunity. But these all are precautionary measures not treatment of coronavirus.” We also talked to Dr DS Arya, Professor of Pharmacology at AIIMS, Delhi. He told us that drinking a large amount of alum water can also harm your body. Do not believe these rumours. If you feel any symptoms of covid-19 get yourself tested and follow the government guidelines.
