The Ethiopian government has called for a unilateral ceasefire in the Tigray region after months of international pressure. Ethiopian forces have withdrawn from Mekele, the capital of Tigray, leading to rebel forces capturing the capital city again. Thousands of people killed and many more have been displaced in the ongoing conflict between Ethiopian and rebel forces. Tigray is going through a humanitarian crisis as hundreds of thousands of people are facing famine. Prime minister Abiy Ahmed, who won the 2019 noble peace prize has been accused of unethical warfare and human rights atrocities. With the current stance of the government, hopes of peace have resurfaced and that humanitarian relief will reach Tigray soon.
