In this edition of Tarikh, Nikhil talks about Vinoba Bhave. Born on 11 September 1895 Vinoba was an advocate of nonviolence and human rights. He is regarded as saintly figure and is often revered as Acharya. In 1951 Vinobha reached Shivrampalli and started the Bhoodan movement under the sarvoday banner. During emergency a controversy got attached to him and he was termed as sympathetic to emergency. People called him a ‘sarkari sant’. We will look into this allegation whether there was any truth to it. Vinoba is considered a National Teacher and spiritual successor of Mahatma Gandhi. He was an eminent philosopher and translated The Gita to Marathi language by him with the name, Geetai means Mother Geeta.
