24 September, 2002. The day, which Gujarat and rest of India can never forget. This was the day when two terrorists entered into Akshardham Temple, Gandhinagar and caused mayhem. People lost their families. Police force reached the spot and tried to control the situation. R B Brahmbhatt, who was DSP at Gandhinagar Police Station at the time, was injured during firing. However, he went to the hospital and returned half an hour later to the operation. Police was bravely handling the terrorists. Constable Yogendra Rajput was shot in the neck and the bullet still remains in his body. Doctors refused to take out the bullet as this could paralyze him. Narendra Modi, then Chief Minister of Gujarat, consulted then Deputy Prime Minister Lal Krishna Advani. It was then that Advani deployed National Security Guard Commandos for the operation.
