History of IVF (In Vitro Fertilization)
Dr. Robert Edwards and Patrick Steptoe pioneered IVF, leading to the birth of the first test-tube baby, Louise Brown, in England on July 25, 1978.
Just 67 days later, Dr. Subhas Mukhopadhyay achieved India’s first test-tube baby, Durga, using advanced cryopreservation techniques.
Mukhopadhyay faced immense government and medical community backlash, leading to his suicide due to a lack of recognition and persecution.
His monumental contribution was only officially acknowledged years later, contrasting sharply with Edwards’ Nobel Prize.
