21 जुलाई को संसद मानसून सत्र का पहला दिन था. जगदीप धनखड़ ने सदन की कार्यवाही को संचालित किया. शाम तक सब ठीक था. कहीं से किसी को ऐसा नहीं लगा कि रात होते ही जगदीप धनखड़ उपराराष्ट्रपति पद छोड़ देंगे. जब राष्ट्रपति भवन जाकर जगदीप धनखड़ ने इस्तीफा दिया तब तक सियासी खलबली मच चुकी थी. अब तक लोगों को समझ नहीं आ रहा कि आखिर जगदीप धनखड़ के इस्तीफे की असल कहानी क्या है.
