A verdict is expected on August 1 in one of four sexual abuse cases against former Hassan Member of Parliament, Prajwal Revanna. The trial concluded on July 18. This case involves a 48-year-old woman, formerly a house help at his family’s farmhouse, who was allegedly raped twice in 2021, filmed, and later intimidated. Following the scandal breaking in April last year, the victim was rescued by a Special Investigation Team (SIT). The case highlights the alleged misuse of political power, as described by one speaker: “a man who is the grandson of former Prime Minister A. G. Deve Gowda, who comes from a massive influential political family and misused that trust and influence on these poor vulnerable women.” Prajwal Revanna, the son of H.D. Revanna, faces three other pending rape cases and will remain in prison regardless of this verdict.
