Former JDS MP Prajwal Rewanna has been convicted of rape by a Bengaluru court in the first of four sexual abuse cases against him. The case was initiated by a domestic worker from the family’s farmhouse in Hassan, who accused Rewanna of rape, filming the act, and criminal intimidation. A key piece of evidence that led to the conviction was the victim’s saree, which forensic analysis confirmed contained Rewanna’s DNA. While this trial has concluded, three other cases are pending against the grandson of former Prime Minister H.D. Deve Gowda. An opposition leader stated, “Conviction proves all the allegations made by the victims from Hassan and I think it is time that the JDS leaders and the BJP leaders come out and answer the questions that the people have been asking for long.” The quantum of the sentence in the current case is expected to be announced.
