A cloudburst incident in Uttarakhand on August 5, 2025, at 1:30 PM, has caused significant devastation near Gangotri Dham. Dharali village has been completely submerged by a sudden rush of water, silt, and boulders from Kheer Ganga, locally known as Gadera. Over 100 people are reported to be stuck, with many trapped, and 60-70 individuals displaced. The topography of the village has been altered by the force of the water. Rescue operations are ongoing, with teams from NDRF, SDRF, ITBP, and the Army rushing to the location. Continuous rain is hindering efforts, and the area is cut off from the rest of the state. An eyewitness, 65 years old, stated, “This scene has never been seen.” The incident is compared to a 1978 flood in Kanuria. The Minister of State in the Ministry of Road and Transport and Highways, Ajay Tamta, commented on the nature of cloudbursts.
