Karnataka’s Deputy Chief Minister, D.K. Shivkumar, has challenged the Election Commission, stating it has no authority to issue a notice to Congress leader Rahul Gandhi regarding allegations of vote fraud. Shivkumar asserted that the Congress party won the elections democratically and will provide necessary clarifications and documents to the commission as requested. He is quoted as saying, “we are not school boys for whatever the Election Commission will ask, will give explanation for that.” The challenge comes after the EC sought documentary evidence for allegations made by Rahul Gandhi during a public rally. Shivkumar maintains that Rahul Gandhi will not take an oath of office regarding these specific allegations and that the party will continue to defend its leader against what it terms “vote of fraud allegations” by the BJP.
