A group of former judges criticised the remarks made by Home Minister Amit Shah regarding the opposition’s vice-presidential candidate pick. The statement made by Shah misinterpreted the Supreme Court’s judgement in the Salwa Judum case and was deemed “unfortunate”. The former judges also advised Shah to refrain from “name-calling.”
The criticism came from a group of 18 former judges, including those who once held seats on the Supreme Court: Kurien Joseph, Madan B Lokur and J Chelameswar. Shah labelled the opposition vice-presidential candidate B Sudershan Reddy, a former Supreme Court judge, as someone who supports Naxalism based on a prior ruling.
