Congress leader Rahul Gandhi has made a significant political move in Bihar by reaching out to the extremely backward classes (EBCs). Speaking at the ‘Ati Pichhda Nyay Sankalp’ symposium in Patna, Gandhi promised a comprehensive 10-point program if the INDIA bloc comes to power in Bihar.
Key promises include a new ‘EBC Prevention of Atrocities Act’ modeled after the SC/ST Act, increased reservations for EBCs in local bodies from 20% to 30%, 50% reservation in government contracts up to ₹25 crore, reservations in private educational institutions, and allocation of land to landless families from deprived castes.
This outreach is aimed at challenging the strong EBC support base of Chief Minister Nitish Kumar and his JD(U) party. Alongside Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge and RJD leader Tejashwi Yadav, Rahul Gandhi framed this as a battle for social justice and inclusion, accusing the NDA government of neglecting marginalized communities.
In this video Pankaj Jha decodes Rahul Gandhi’s evolving master plan to regain Congress’s lost ground in Bihar. This political battle is crucial ahead of upcoming Bihar assembly elections, with Rahul Gandhi attempting to break Nitish Kumar’s long-standing grip on the state’s backward caste support by promising new rights and reservations for EBCs. The contest reflects a deeper struggle for social justice and political power in Bihar’s complex caste-driven landscape. Watch the video
