A political blame game has erupted in Tamil Nadu following a stampede in Karur where 41 people died. Actor-turned-politician Vijay’s party, TVK, has approached the Madras High Court seeking a CBI or SIT probe, alleging the incident was a conspiracy. The party has also filed a complaint with the National Human Rights Commission. The TVK chief questioned why the incident occurred only in Karur and stated that if the government wants revenge, “they can target him, but they do not need to target his people.” The Stalin government alleges TVK violated rally regulations. The AIA DMK chief accuses the DMK of politicizing the tragedy. The Madras High Court is set to hear pleas today concerning the probe, anticipatory bail for TVK members, and permission for Vijay to meet the victims’ families.
