A man in Maharashtra’s Jalgaon was jailed for 15 months without trial or any crime, under the Preventive Detention law meant only for rare and serious threats. The Bombay High Court slammed the district collector Ayush Prasad for abuse of power, calling the act “insensitive and unjust.” The court ordered that ₹2 lakh compensation be paid to the victim, and that the entire amount be recovered from the collector’s salary. This verdict, delivered by the Aurangabad bench, has become a landmark for accountability in administration — a reminder that no official is above the law and misuse of authority will come at a personal cost.
