Cricket legend Sunil Gavaskar has strongly condemned the stalking and molestation of two Australian women cricketers in Indore. Calling the incident “heinous” and “very, very sad,” Gavaskar stated that the guilty person should be locked up and the keys thrown away. Speaking to India Today, he warned that such incidents tarnish the country’s image and could impact its aspirations to host major global sporting events, including a bid for the 2036 Olympic Games and the upcoming 2030 Commonwealth Games. The incident occurred while the Australian cricketers, in India for the ICC Women’s Cricket World Cup, were walking from their hotel to a café. Gavaskar’s comments highlight concerns over safety and India’s reputation as a host nation.
