A major controversy has erupted between the BCCI and the Asian Cricket Council (ACC) over the Asia Cup trophy, won by India. The dispute centres around ACC President Mohsin Naqvi, who is also Pakistan’s Interior Minister, refusing to hand over the silverware to the Indian team. In a letter, Naqvi stated that ‘the office of the ACC president will not engage in petty politics’ and insisted a BCCI official must collect the trophy from Dubai. This response came after the BCCI demanded the immediate handover of the cup and a written explanation for why it was withheld at the venue. With the support of the Sri Lankan and Afghan cricket boards, the BCCI has rejected Naqvi’s conditions and is now set to escalate the matter at the next ICC meeting.
