In a crackdown on misinformation, Delhi Police has detained 10 social media influencers for allegedly spreading fake news regarding the demolition drive near Turkman Gate’s Faiz-e-Ilahi mosque. The individuals, including Afan, Adil, Shahnawaz, Hamza, Athar, and Ubaid, are accused of inciting a mob by falsely claiming the mosque itself was being demolished. A woman influencer, Airman Rizvi, has also been summoned to join the investigation. The unrest, which involved stone-pelting and required police to use mild force, occurred after the Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) initiated a High Court-ordered demolition of illegal structures near the mosque. Police clarified that the mosque was not targeted. An unidentified speaker stated, ‘It is believed that due to these influencers, rumours were spread amongst the people.’
