IPS officer, Ramachandra Rao, currently serving as the DGP of the Civil Rights Enforcement Directorate in Karnataka, has been suspended following the leak of a 47-second viral video allegedly showing him in an inappropriate physical encounter with women inside his office. This scandal is the latest in a series of controversies for Rao, who was previously sent on compulsory leave in 2025 for allegedly using his position to help his stepdaughter bypass airport security during a gold smuggling case. While Rao has dismissed the video as “fake” and claimed a conspiracy, the government has initiated a probe into the incident, which has drawn sharp criticism from the opposition for tarnishing the sanctity of the police uniform and the constitutional oath of office just months before his scheduled retirement in May 2026.
