An Indian student, identified as Saket Sreenivasaiah, has been found dead in the United States after going missing on February 9. The 22-year-old, who hailed from Karnataka and was studying at UC Berkeley, was the subject of an intensive search involving sonar, drones, and divers. Authorities from the Alameda County Sheriff’s Office recovered his body from Lake Anza on Saturday afternoon. The Indian Consulate in San Francisco has confirmed the development and informed the family. While the recovery concludes the search, local police authorities have kept the investigation open to determine the exact cause of death, including whether it was an accident or suicide. Friends of the student had initially raised the alarm after he failed to return to his accommodation. Indian officials remain in contact with the family as the investigation into the circumstances surrounding the death continues in California.
