A major controversy has erupted at the India AI Impact Summit 2026 after Galgotias University was accused of passing off a Chinese-made robo-dog as an indigenous innovation. Following massive social media backlash and political criticism from Opposition leader Rahul Gandhi, the government has reportedly asked the Noida-based university to vacate its pavilion immediately. Power to the university’s stall has already been disconnected. An unidentified speaker from the university defended the institution, stating, ‘We have not developed it. We have worked on its development,’ clarifying that the robot was procured for research purposes to help Indian students learn advanced AI techniques. The university maintains it never explicitly claimed to have manufactured the product, despite earlier reports suggesting otherwise. The incident has caused significant embarrassment for the summit organizers, with the Congress party claiming the event has made India a ‘laughing stock’ globally. The university remains under fire as it attempts to justify the inclusion of the Chinese product in its AI investment showcase.
