The Maharashtra government has revoked the 5% reservation for socially and educationally backward Muslim communities in education and public employment. The decision follows legal uncertainty after the Bombay High Court earlier stayed the quota in jobs and the 2014 ordinance was never turned into law. The policy, first introduced by the Indian National Congress–Nationalist Congress Party alliance, has now officially lapsed across admissions, recruitment and certification.
