A startling video from Deoband Jail in Saharanpur, Uttar Pradesh has gone viral on social media showing a judicial magistrate questioning prisoners who were allegedly injured in a police encounter. In the footage, inmates claim they were picked up from the road by police, taken to a police post, and brutally tortured to force confessions. They say that after refusing to accept charges, they were shot in the leg, and police tried to stage the incident as a legitimate “encounter.” The prisoners describe how firing and evidence were allegedly manipulated to give the appearance of a genuine shootout.
