A special POCSO court in Prayagraj has ordered Jhunsi police to register an FIR and launch a criminal investigation against Jyotish Peeth Shankaracharya Swami Avimukteshwaranand Saraswati and his disciple Swami Mukundanand Giri over allegations of sexual exploitation of minors in their ashram. Shakumbhari Peethadhishwar Ashutosh Brahmachari claims to have submitted a CD of evidence and accounts from around 20 children, the ADJ (Rape & POCSO) Vinod Kumar Chaurasia recorded videographed statements of two minors, noted earlier police inaction, and then directed that an FIR be filed while stressing that the court is not yet commenting on the merits.
