Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney has arrived in India for his first official visit since taking office. The visit, at the invitation of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, aims to reset and strengthen ties between the two countries.
Carney landed in Mumbai with a large business delegation to boost economic partnerships. Energy cooperation and security are expected to be key focus areas during the visit.
India-Canada relations have faced challenges in the past, including the Air India Flight 182 bombing (Kanishka bombing), differences over India’s nuclear tests, and tensions during the tenure of former Prime Minister Justin Trudeau related to the Hardeep Singh Nijjar case.
This visit is being closely watched globally as both nations attempt to stabilise ties and explore new opportunities.
