The US and Israel launched strikes on Iran on Saturday, igniting military tensions in the Middle East, which has been on the brink of a conflict for several weeks. Israel said the US-led operation, called Epic Fury, had launched pre-emptive strikes. US President Donald Trump confirmed a “major combat operation” as explosions were heard in several parts of Iran. Tehran, which promised a “crushing” response to the US-led strikes, attacked US bases across the Middle East, including those in the UAE, Bahrain, Qatar and Jordan. Countries in the Middle East have shut their airspace while several countries have issued advisories to its citizens, asking them to take shelter and avoid unnecessary movement.
