Pakistan is reaching out to regional partners like Saudi Arabia, Qatar, and Turkey to help reduce tensions with Afghanistan.
Saudi Arabia confirmed active diplomatic communication after a call between Pakistan’s Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar and Saudi Foreign Minister Faisal bin Farhan Al Saud.
The outreach comes after Pakistan carried out airstrikes in Afghanistan. In response, Afghanistan launched attacks along the Durand Line in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and carried out drone strikes in Islamabad, Abbottabad, and Noshera.
Pakistan’s Defence Minister Khawaja Asif described the situation as an “open war” along the Durand Line. Reports say that within hours of this statement, Pakistan began seeking foreign diplomatic intervention.
Saudi Arabia has urged both sides to show restraint and resolve the crisis through dialogue to prevent further escalation.
