Lok Sabha Member of Parliament G Kumar Naik highlights the severe LPG crisis affecting Bangalore, stating that commercial establishments have received zero supplies in the last 2-3 days. Speaking on the issue, Naik mentions that 25 to 30 per cent of hotels and eateries in Bangalore have closed due to the shortage, directly impacting gig workers and daily wage earners. He criticises the government for lack of foresight, referencing a 2023 Standing Committee recommendation to diversify energy sources. Naik attributes the crisis to poor diplomatic decisions and inadequate anticipation of supply disruptions from West Asia, particularly through the Strait of Hormuz, which accounts for 55 per cent of India’s LPG supply. While the government has invoked the Essential Commodities Act and claims to prioritise household supplies, Naik asserts that measures taken have not yet improved the ground situation. The opposition parliamentarian calls for immediate action to restore supplies and overcome the crisis.
