A Thai flagged cargo ship named Mayuree Naree, which was heading to India’s Kandla port in Gujarat, came under attack while passing through the Strait of Hormuz on March 11, 2026. The vessel was reportedly hit by two unidentified projectiles, triggering a massive fire in the engine room and sending thick black smoke into the air. Out of the 23 crew members on board, 20 were rescued by the Omani Navy after the crew abandoned the ship in lifeboats, while three crew members were reported missing. The incident has raised serious concerns about the safety of commercial shipping in one of the world’s most critical maritime routes amid escalating regional tensions.
