External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar has hailed direct talks with Iran as the most effective way to restart shipping through the Strait of Hormuz amid tensions in West Asia. Two LPG ships, Shivalik and Nandadevi, carrying over 92,000 metric tonnes of gas supply, were given safe passage through the Strait of Hormuz following direct negotiations between India and Iran. The arrangement came as India faced an LPG crunch domestically. However, over 20 other Indian ships remain stuck in the Strait of Hormuz. Arrangements are being worked out for their safe passage as well, with coordination continuing between Indian and Iranian authorities. The Iranian ambassador to India recently confirmed at the India Today Conclave that an arrangement has been worked out between the two countries for the safe passage of certain ships carrying crucial supplies.
