US President Donald Trump has said that the wave of attacks on Gulf countries by Iran has surprised Washington and security analysts. Speaking at the White House, Trump stated that officials did not expect regional states to come under direct attack as the conflict with Iran escalates. ‘We were shocked. The greatest experts, nobody thought that they were going to hit,’ Trump said. He added that several Gulf countries, including Bahrain, Kuwait, and the UAE, had already come under fire as the conflict spreads beyond its initial frontlines. ‘There was no expert that would say that that was going to happen,’ Trump remarked. The US President also claimed that in two weeks, America had decimated Iran’s military capabilities, stating that Iran has ‘no Navy, no Air Force, no anti-aircraft weapons, no leadership.’ Trump described the situation as ‘high-level chess’ and said the strikes continue across West Asia.
