Iran has categorically rejected all forms of direct and indirect talks with the United States, dismissing offers of mediation from multiple countries including Pakistan, Saudi Arabia, Qatar, and Oman. Speaking exclusively to India Today’s Diplomatic Affairs Editor Geeta Mohan, Iranian Foreign Affairs Spokesperson stated that Iran does not believe in diplomacy with the United States, citing ‘catastrophic experience’ with American diplomacy. He revealed that Iran was attacked twice within nine months while in the middle of negotiations to resolve the nuclear issue, describing it as ‘betrayal of diplomacy’. The spokesperson said Iranian armed forces are focused on defending Iran’s territory and sovereignty against what he termed an ‘illegal war’. He emphasised that while the world is concerned about oil prices and the economy, Iran is concerned about the lives of its citizens, referencing an attack on 28 February where over 170 children were killed in the city of Minar. Iran’s position remains clear: nothing short of an American retreat will be acceptable.
