Prime Minister Narendra Modi has inaugurated the Noida International Airport in Jewar, Uttar Pradesh, marking a significant infrastructure milestone for the National Capital Region. The airport, built at a cost of 11,000 crore rupees along the Yamuna Expressway, becomes the NCR’s second international airport after Indira Gandhi International Airport. The phase one inauguration will enable the airport to handle 1.2 crore passengers annually, with capacity to expand to 7 crore passengers in later phases. The airport features a 3,900-meter runway capable of handling wide-body aircraft and aims to ease congestion at Delhi’s IGI Airport. Designed as a net zero emission facility focusing on sustainability, the airport is planned to become India’s largest once fully completed. It will also serve as a major cargo hub and is expected to create an aerotropolis with business hubs, hotels and industries. The location provides strategic access to western Uttar Pradesh and will be linked with high-speed rail, metro and expressways for seamless connectivity in future phases.
