Pete Hegseth stated that Iran agreed to a two-week ceasefire after suffering severe military losses during the US-led “Operation Epic Fury.” Speaking alongside Dan Caine, he claimed Iran was “humiliated and demoralised,” with its missile program nearly destroyed and leadership significantly weakened. According to Hegseth, the United States carried out 800 strikes in a single night, crippling Iran’s defence infrastructure while using less than 10% of its military capability. He also alleged that Mojtaba Khamenei was injured in the attacks, though no evidence was provided. Hegseth warned that Iran must hand over its enriched uranium or face further action, emphasizing that the ceasefire is temporary and US forces remain ready to resume operations.
