In 1947, the Maharaja of Travancore, Chithira Thirunal Balarama Varma, signed the Instrument of Accession, agreeing to merge Travancore into the Indian Union. This marked the end of Travancore’s rule as an independent state and the beginning of its integration into the newly independent India.
The Accession of Travancore into the Indian Union was a peaceful process and was widely welcomed by the people of Travancore. It marked a significant step towards the unification of India and the creation of a united, independent nation.
Today, the legacy of Travancore lives on in the rich cultural and historical heritage of Kerala, and its accession into the Indian Union continues to be remembered and celebrated as an important moment in the history of India.
