The skeletons found in a well in Ajnala town of Punjab belong to 246 Indian soldiers who were brutally killed by the British during the Revolt of 1857. The slain soldiers were residents of the Gangetic plains. The study was published on April 26 in the journal ‘Frontiers in Genetics’. According to the study, the soldiers whose bodies were found in the well were part of the 26th Bengal Infantry of the British Indian Army. According to the report of an English newspaper Indian Express, archaeologists have described the Ajnala well as the place where most of the skeletons related to the revolt of 1857 have been found.
