Trial in the downing of Malaysian Airlines Flight 17, mostly called MH17, begins in Netherlands on March 9, 2020. This civilian airliner was shot down by Pro-Russian rebels in east Ukraine on July 17, 2014 killing all 298 people aboard. According to the prosecutors, the Buk missile system that targeted MH17 belonged to a unit of Russian Military, the 53rd Anti Aircraft Brigade based in the Russian city of Kursk. The BUK missile fired by the pro-Russian group targeted the left side of the cockpit of MH17 and the airplane broke up in the sky. Buk Missile was made in 1986 by Soviet Union.
Criminal proceedings has started against four suspects charged with bringing down flight MH17. Three of them are from Russia and remaining one is from Ukraine. Russia has repeatedly denied involvement in the missile attack on MH17.
