In this edition of Tarikh, Nikhil talks about india’s master spy RN Kao and how under his leadership RAW formulated a plan to make Sikkim a part of India. Till 1975 Sikkim was a protectorate of india means India handled the foreign relations and Defence of Sikkim. The Chugyal leader of Sikkim, Palden Thondup Namgyal, was keen to get Sikkim as a separate state similar to Bhutan. In 1972 Indira Gandhi gave RAW the task to formulate a plan to make Sikkim a part of India. The Sikkim National Congress party leader Kazi Lhendup Dorjee shore up a pro India movement in Sikkim. Which resulted in Sikkim becoming the 22nd state of India in 1975 after referendum. Watch complete episode to know more
