In this edition of Tarikh, Nikhil narrates the battle of Chinsurah also known as the Battle of Biderra or Battle of Hoogly. This battle took place near Chinsurah in bengal on 25 November 1759 during the 7 Years’ Wars between British East India Company and Dutch East India Company. After the Battle of Plassey, Mir jafar was limited to being a Puppet Nawab of Bengal. Mir Jafar Colluded with Dutch EIC to expel the British and establish himself as a strong ruler. Dutch EIC was also looking to establish themselves as the leading commercial company in Bengal. When the Dutch advanced up the Hooghly River. British and Indian Troops retaliated at Chinsurah, fifty kilometres outside Calcutta. The British, under Colonel Francis Forde, defeated the Dutch, forcing them to withdraw.
