#AssamElection2021: During the Lallantop Chunav Yatra for Assam Election 2021, the team of The Lallantop reached Barak Valley in the state of Assam to know more about Assamese tradition and culture. Barak Valley’s rivers support an ancient method of livelihood – the transportation of bamboo. The slow rivers snake through the terrain facilitating bamboo trade between Manipur and Barak Valley. Hundreds of bamboo sticks harvested from jungles of Manipur and Assam are tied together; resembling a barge. This pile is then rowed downriver. It may take weeks to complete the journey in which men sleep and even cook food on bamboo sticks. Watch the video to find out how these tough men live.
