American officials have met their Russian counterparts in Saudi Arabia for the first of a possible series of meetings aimed at normalising US-Russia ties and negotiating a peaceful settlement of the war in Ukraine. The only problem is that Ukrainian and European officials are not involved in the meetings, driving fears that US will capitulate to Vladimir Putin’s war demands. Chief among these demands will likely be the relaxation or complete removal of Western sanctions on Russia. Will Trump oblige?
