However, this wasn’t the case in the morning—there were fears and uncertainties in people’s minds. Many were worried about what might happen in Sambhal, Bareilly, or even Lucknow. For the first time in 64 years, Holi and Ramzan’s Juma coincided on the same day. Given the sensitivity of the occasion, what happened in Sambhal had not been witnessed in the last 46 years—no curfew, no riots, everything remained peaceful in UP. When Yogi Adityanath declared on stage, “Na curfew, na danga, UP mein sab change” (No curfew, no riots, everything is fine in UP), it carried a deeper meaning—one that became evident today.
