In a shocking RTI revelation, the Supreme Court spent ₹2.6 crore on glass panels for its corridors, only to remove them within a year at an additional cost of ₹8.63 lakh, totaling ₹2.68 crore of taxpayers’ money. Initiated under CJI DY Chandrachud in November 2022 to modernize the court and aid centralized air conditioning, the glass partitions faced backlash from the Supreme Court Bar Association and Advocates-on-Record Association. They argued the panels narrowed corridors, causing overcrowding and hindering movement. Despite protests, the panels remained until CJI BR Gavai, the 51st CJI, decided to restore the court’s original open layout in June 2025. To understand the story, watch the full video.
