On Saturday, the Kashmir Valley received its first goods train, welcomed by people and traders in Anantnag. This rail link connects the Kashmir Valley with the rest of the country, offering the advantage of easy and low-tariff transportation for necessary items and goods. This development is expected to boost the economy and significantly aid apple growers and other farmers. As one individual stated, ‘Relief will be found, because often there used to be vehicle problems here. Vehicles were not available during the fruit season. So then there was this problem that the goods here would rot, they would completely spoil.’ Previously, high rates for commodities like vegetables, fruits, cement, and iron were common due to road blockages lasting several days. This new rail connectivity is anticipated to provide relief from such issues.
