The parents of a 16-year-old boy from California have filed a wrongful death lawsuit against OpenAI and its CEO Sam Altman, alleging that the company’s chatbot, ChatGPT, played a role in their son’s death by suicide. The case, filed in San Francisco state court on August 26, is the first of its kind to hold an AI developer directly responsible for such an incident.
