A war of videos generated by artificial intelligence is escalating in poll-bound Tamil Nadu. Following the release of an AI video from actor Vijay’s TVK party showing DMK founder Anna Durai endorsing him, Chief Minister Stalin’s DMK has countered with its own AI video. Released on the birthday of Dravidian icon Periyar E.V. Ramasamy, the DMK’s video features an AI-generated Periyar speaking against racism and for gender equality. The move is significant as Periyar is considered the ideological teacher for all Dravidian leaders, including Anna Durai. This video war sees both parties attempting to claim the legacies of these influential figures. The release of the Periyar video coincided with the DMK’s celebrations for its foundation day and the birthdays of both Anna Durai and Periyar.
