Marathwada, a region in Maharashtra long known for drought, is reeling under its worst floods in decades. Four days of relentless rain have submerged 159 villages in Dharashiv district, killing eight people and sweeping away over 200 cattle. More than 700 homes have collapsed and crops across 33,000 hectares destroyed. Three bridges in Jalna and Beed were washed away, while five small dams failed. Officials say such rainfall hasn’t been seen in 50–70 years. Disaster teams are rescuing stranded families, but leaders urge faster relief and fair compensation, including ₹50,000 per hectare for affected farmers, as damage continues to escalate.
