E20 means petrol blended with 20% ethanol, a form of alcohol made from natural sources like sugarcane, corn, and waste grains. This “green” fuel was introduced by the Indian government under Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s initiative to reduce pollution, cut crude oil imports, and support farmers by using surplus agricultural produce.
But here’s the catch: despite ethanol having 33% less energy than petrol, E20 is being sold at almost the same price as pure petrol. This leads to higher fuel consumption and expenses for consumers. The government explains that rising ethanol costs and commitments to farmers are the reasons behind the pricing.
In this video, we look at the real impact of E20 fuel on your vehicle’s performance, cost, and whether the government’s claims stack up. Listen to expert opinions and decide for yourself—is E20 really worth it, or is it burning a hole in your pocket?
