Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath has issued a direct warning to rioters and criminals, stating there will be dire consequences and that an “unforgettable lesson” will be taught. This follows unrest in Bareilly after Juma Namaz, where police have filed 11 FIRs and booked over 2000 people. Maulana Taukir Raza has been named as the main conspirator in two of these FIRs. In his address, the Chief Minister contrasted his government with previous administrations that he said honoured rioters and where officials shook hands with “mafia dogs.” He stated that since 2017, his government has not allowed a curfew and has taught those who break the law in a language they understand. More than 39 people have been arrested in connection with the violence.
