Heavy rains in Nepal have caused widespread disruption, with the capital Kathmandu experiencing floods and landslides. While domestic flight operations from Tribhuvan International Airport have resumed after a temporary suspension, road traffic in and out of the city remains halted. The situation has created a significant flood threat for the Indian state of Bihar. According to reports, “Nepal has opened 50 gates of the Kosi Barrage, releasing 335,000 cusecs of water,” which has led to rising water levels in Bihar’s Kosi, Gandak, and Bagmati rivers. While rainfall has ceased in Kathmandu, it continues for a third day in eastern Nepal, close to the Indian border, indicating that the flood situation in several districts of Bihar may worsen in the coming days.
