External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar has asserted that India’s strategic autonomy is stronger than ever, stating the country has no reason to form alliances. He argued that India maintained its freedom of choice even when it was a much weaker nation and that current global political trends only reinforce this stance. “India did not ally with anybody even when we were much weaker. Today, there is absolutely no reason to do it. In fact, the behavior of some countries has made the case for strategic autonomy stronger,” he stated. The minister noted that some nations equate having a choice with indecision, viewing it as a subtext to demand alignment. He emphasized that India will continue its policy of strategic autonomy and promote multi-alignment in international politics.
